Infante Sagres reopens after an extensive renovation of its beautiful interior spaces that revives its entire historical and decorative heritage, while adding a contemporary and cosmopolitan touch.<\/p>\n
Infante Sagres opened its doors in 1951. The vision of its creator, businessman and philanthropist Delfim Ferreira, was to provide the city of Porto with a luxury hotel at the level of the best in Europe. The interior of the building, of historical interest, is of great decorative richness, with details of worked iron and carved wood as well as the wonderful stained glass windows from Ricardo Leone's studio.<\/p>\n
The name of the hotel is a tribute to Infante Dom Henrique, known as The Navigator for having promoted the Age of Discoveries and the first Portuguese voyages of exploration. The prince was also known as the Infante of Sagres, a name derived from the place where he founded his navigation school. He was born in Porto in 1394, son of King D. Jo\u00e3o I of Portugal and Dona Filipa de Lencastre, sister of King Henry IV of England.<\/p>\n
